If you feel healthy, it’s always tempting to skip your annual gynecologic exam. But your yearly checkup is designed to be a wellness exam that focuses on keeping you healthy by preventing problems.
Like many health conditions, gynecologic problems develop slowly over the course of a year or more. With routine checkups, Dr. Baginski can detect the earliest signs of changes and recommend nutritional, herbal, or medical treatments that stop the changes from turning into a serious health problem.
Another great benefit of coming in for an annual wellness exam is that it gives you dedicated time to talk with Dr. Baginski.
No matter what questions or concerns you might have — whether you’re concerned about losing weight, wonder if you have a food sensitivity, or you’d like to plan for a future pregnancy — this is your time to get the help you need.
What services can I receive during my annual exam?

Why does my annual exam include a Pap smear?
The human papillomavirus, better known as HPV, is so common that virtually everyone who has had sexual intercourse has been exposed to the virus. Most of the time, your body does a great job of clearing HPV away, so it never causes a health problem.
But sometimes, the virus sticks around and invades the cells in your cervix. Once the virus is in place, it causes abnormal cell growth, or dysplasia, that can ultimately turn into cervical cancer.
Your Pap smear specifically screens for the presence of dysplasia, catching cellular changes early, when simple treatment can eliminate the problem and prevent cervical cancer. You can also get an HPV test, either alone or together with a Pap smear, depending on your overall risk for cervical cancer.
