When should I start pregnancy care?

Starting pregnancy care early is important for you and your baby’s health. You should contact Dr. Baginski’s office as soon as you know you’re pregnant.

Though your health needs are unique to you and your baby, your first prenatal visit is generally scheduled eight weeks after your last menstrual period.

What can I expect during my first pregnancy visit?

Your first pregnancy visit with Dr. Baginski may be the longest and most comprehensive evaluation during your pregnancy.

During this initial evaluation, Dr. Baginski may begin by running a pregnancy test to confirm your pregnancy. He then reviews your medical history, gynecological history, and family history, as well as your partner’s medical and family history.

He performs a physical and pelvic exam and conducts a number of tests to assess you and your baby’s health, which may include:

  • Blood test
  • Urinalysis
  • Pap smear
  • HPV test

Dr. Baginski may also recommend an ultrasound, which helps determine your baby’s due date.

After your examination, Dr. Baginski answers all your questions and health concerns and reviews what to expect throughout your pregnancy. He also provides diet and exercise recommendations, as well as nutritional supplements.

How often do I need to see the doctor during pregnancy?

The frequency of your pregnancy appointments with Dr. Baginski depends on where you are in your pregnancy, as well as your overall health and the health of the baby.

In general, you need to follow-up with Dr. Baginski once a month up until you reach week 28, then twice a month until week 36. Once you reach week 36 of your pregnancy, Dr. Baginski schedules weekly appointments until you have the baby.

You may require more frequent appointments if you have a high-risk pregnancy. Your pregnancy may be considered high-risk if you’re carrying twins, you’re 35 or older, or you have an underlying health condition. Dr. Baginski specializes in high-risk pregnancies and can provide the extra attention and care you need.
